Our Arena                      Back

The Richmond arena is an old not oldest building in the region in field of activity. Built in 1940, this edifice had a regional vocation for many years being that it was the only one. The arrival of artificial ice surface in 1959 was for the Richmond Coliseum another new novelty in all of the region. This building played a first plan role in the development for the town of Richmond and its surroundings. In 1972, the Colisium was modernized with the arriving of the tractor to redo the iced surface. The old famous water barrels that had served since the advent of ice in this building had been abandoned.

We assist at another important modification in 1976 to the history of the Richmond Colisium. The part housing the entry way, the restaurant and the players’ rooms are demolished and a new structure offering these same facilities is rebuilt. The last changes realized to the edifice were produced in 1987. In the aim to respond to a calendar that is getting longer and longer, the arena gets a second compressor. Moreover, the physionomy of the stands changes totally since the structure (styled in steps and in wood) is replaced by individual seats for the spectators. Finally the tractor substituted by a Zamboni.

The last modifications are only recently, as that in 1992, the town of Richmond abandons the name of Richmond Coliseum to baptize the edifice «Le Centre Sportif P.E. Lefebre» in honor of he who worked for more than 23 years as manager of the establishment.
